Summer with Cocoa

...the spoiled rotten 11 year old family poodle.

I spent more than half of August at my parents' place doggysitting while they were on vacation. Cocoa spent more than half of that time either sleeping or napping. Both of us were pretty tired of the rain.

He finally got a haircut after my parents came back. I'm back home, trying to catch up on work, only to discover that my desktop is dying. Thankfully I have a laptop as backup but since my cellphone is dying as well, my finances are going to be hit pretty hard.
Murphy's Law. Such is life.

I'm looking forward to autumn.

Let sleeping dogs lie

Or in this case, let one sleeping family poodle lie.

August is coming to a close. I spent most of the month at my parents' place doggysitting while they were on holiday. (Not having a 8-to-7 job makes me a very convenient dogsitter.) Although it wasn't truly "take care of the dog" but more of a "watch the dog sleep" kind of thing. Powersleeping on the sofa, on dad's chair, with a red blanky in my lap (a true lap dog), and smack in the middle of my pillow when I got up for a blink second.

There are rare moments when he does play, but it's quite impossible to get a decent photo.

So, waddaya want? Camera click = instant eye opener. He always looks like he needs a haircut.

Ten years old, and he has the whole family trained just the way he wants.

Another Cocoa the Spoiled Poodle Post

Because I've been sitting on my lazy derriere and not editing the gazillion food and travel related photos taking up space on my harddrive, I present you (rather) old photos of Cocoa in his usual glory.

In his seat of power, i.e. my dad's lap. Dad is his favorite head-scratcher.
Aaaaaaah, that feels good.

Aiiiieeeeee! Happy screams! He also likes to have his neck scritched.

So what's your problem? His usual 'now don't give me attitude' face.

Power sleeping. Do dogs sleep hard or what?

I need a nap

Gah, all the Tokyo posts are finally up now. All I have left is the megapile of accumulated posts-to-be about life here in Seoul. Which is several months worth. Ahahahahaha! (If you haven't guessed already, this is an almost demented laugh.)

I'm trying to get them out of the way before this year is over because honestly, who wants to be posting about 2009 when it's 2010?
By the way, isn't the number 2010 sort of scary? It's like one of those numbers mentioned when discussing the Future, with a capital F. Far far away and never to come in your lifetime kind of thing. I feel hella old.

Will powerpost soon, before I head off to my parents' place for the holidays. In the meantime, here are pics of sleepy/sleeping Cocoa. (I never manage to get pics when he's awake.)

Cocoa the Fickle

The suitable spelling when considering the Korean pronuniciation of his name would be 'Coco' but since it always reminds me of Chanel I just add the 'a' on the end. Anyhow, he's the spoiled rotten family toy poodle who doesn't realize he's a dog.

Usually when I visit my parents' he goes into a frenzy of delight upon seeing me - for about a minute. (It used to be five minutes then three then...) After receiving hugs and the occasional treat he will retire to his cushion and promptly go into "don't be a bothersome pest, leave me alone' mode and ignore me for the rest of my stay, unless I'm heading for the kitchen (treats!) or mention 'walk'.

I took him out for a walk and got my mother all annoyed because he got tiny burs all stuck in his fur. Had no idea how hard they were to get out nor how easily they stuck all over the carpets and rugs.

He's mostly an indoor city dog so he doesn't stay out long; he's like a 'fraidy dog, even the slightest sounds make him jump. Evidence shown in this video taken in July:

There are times when he's inexplicably clingy and needy, too. His pride does not allow him to show it much so even though he'll jump on the bed and snuggle in the quilts, he'll purposely avoid your gaze.

Me is not looking atchoo!

No, I'm not gonna get off to let you sleep!

I'm sleeping here, I tell ya! Now gimme a backrub.

Mum was going out on the day I was leaving so when he realized that he was going to be home alone, he got into a mood and purposely pooed on the carpet right next to the door and then promptly pretended that we weren't there. *eye roll and face palm*

It's a dog's life

The toy is miiiiiine!!!

Cocoa is the family poodle (with a teddybear cut) that lives with my parents. He is extremely spoiled and timid but can be ferocious when he knows he has someone looking after his back. (Which is basically my mother.)

He gives the occasional precious 'give me a doggy treat' look,

But mostly spends his time napping:
